Paul Wichgers Schreur, PhD is non-executive scientific officer of BunyaVax (unpaid advisory CSO/COO work). Since its foundation he has been instrumental in leading the scientific research strategy and developing the BunyaVax platform technologies.

Paul obtained his PhD in molecular biology after studying the interaction of Streptococcus suis, an important zoonotic pathogen, with the innate immune system of humans and pigs. In 2012, he started as a post-doctoral researcher in the field of arbovirology at Wageningen Bioveterinary Research (WBVR). Using techniques like reverse-genetics, single-molecule microscopy, and bacterial superglue he studied the infection cycle of bunyaviruses and (co)developed several vaccines and therapeutic antibodies. Paul has many years of experience with animal trials, varying from vaccination-challenge studies to studies focusing on viral pathogenesis. He has (co)authored 20 peer-reviewed publications and is formal (co)applicant of 2 patent applications.
